LOS ANGELES — LA28 will open applications for its Volunteer Program on July 14, seeking 60,000 individuals for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The application window will remain open for an extended period, and early registration does not guarantee a position.
The 2028 Summer Olympics are scheduled from July 14 to July 30, 2028. The Paralympic Games will open on August 15 and close on August 27, 2028. The Olympic volunteer period will run from March through August 2028, with the Paralympic volunteer period running from August through September 2028. Each volunteer must complete a minimum of 10 shifts during their assigned period. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
Volunteer roles include guest services, venue operations, language translation, medical support, and athlete services. Applicants can indicate preferred locations and specialized skills during the application process. LA28 will conduct an interview process to match volunteer skills to locations.
Volunteer opportunities will be available in Oklahoma City, New York, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, San José, and San Diego. Oklahoma City will host softball and canoe slalom events. Soccer preliminaries will be held in New York, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, San José, and San Diego. LA28 will utilize existing facilities rather than constructing new permanent venues.
Reynold Hoover, LA28 Chief Executive Officer, said, "Volunteers are the backbone of the Games. They are a friendly face who helps welcome the world, create memorable experiences and bring the Olympic and Paralympic spirit to life." He added, "As fans fill the seats and athletes take the global stage, behind every event, every venue and every moment is the LA28 Volunteer Crew."
The LA28 Volunteer Program launched in 2025 through a partnership with Delta Air Lines. Since the program launched, LA28 and Delta Air Lines have organized more than 25 community service projects, including beach cleanups, trail restoration, neighborhood beautification, habitat restoration, and food-packing events. Volunteering in these community programs is not required to earn a spot for the Games. The 2028 Olympic Games will feature more than 11,000 athletes competing in 36 sports across more than 40 venues. Los Angeles hosted the Olympic Games in 1932 and 1984. 2028 will be the first time the city hosts the Paralympic Games.
