LOS ANGELES — LA28 will open applications for volunteer positions on July 14, 2028, for the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. The organization aims to recruit approximately 60,000 volunteers for the events.

The Olympic volunteer service period is scheduled to run from March through August 2028. The Paralympic volunteer service period is scheduled for August through September 2028. Individuals interested in volunteering must be 18 years of age or older, and each volunteer is required to complete a minimum of 10 shifts.

Volunteer assignments will be available across the greater Los Angeles region. Additional assignments are planned for Olympic competition sites in Oklahoma City, New York, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, San José, and San Diego. Oklahoma City will host softball and canoe slalom events, while soccer preliminaries will be held in New York, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, San José, and San Diego.

Applicants can indicate preferred locations and specialized skills during the application process. Volunteer roles include guest services, venue operations, language translation, medical support, and athlete services. LA28 Chief Executive Officer Reynold Hoover said volunteers are the "backbone of the Games."

The LA28 Volunteer Program launched in 2025 through a partnership with Delta Air Lines. Since its inception, LA28 and Delta Air Lines have organized more than 25 community service projects, including beach cleanups, trail restoration, neighborhood beautification, habitat restoration, and food-packing events.

The 2028 Summer Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 21, 2028, to August 6, 2028. The Paralympic Games will open on August 15, 2028, and close on August 27, 2028. Los Angeles previously hosted the Olympic Games in 1932 and 1984. The 2028 Games will mark the first time Los Angeles hosts the Paralympic Games.

LA28 plans to utilize existing facilities rather than constructing new permanent venues for the 36 sports across more than 40 venues. These venues include the LA Memorial Coliseum, Rose Bowl, BMO Stadium, SoFi Stadium, and Intuit Dome.
