Privacy Policy

This policy explains what PureSource News collects, why, and what you can do about it. It covers both the puresourcenews.com website and the PureSource News mobile app for iOS and Android. Where the website and the app differ, the difference is stated.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. If you create an account we collect your email address and the display name you choose. If you sign in with Apple or with Google we receive the identifier and email address that service returns; we never receive your password. We assign you an internal user ID.

Preferences. The categories, geographic scopes, saved locations and notification settings you configure.

Content you submit. Comments you post on articles, and any reports you file about another person's comment or account. Comments are public to other users of the service and are stored against your account. Reports are visible only to us.

Photos. In the app, if you set a profile picture, we access the single image you select from your camera or photo library and store it against your account. We do not scan, index or otherwise read your photo library.

Location. In the app, if you grant location permission, we use your device's precise location to show local news and weather for where you are. Your coordinates are used to resolve a place name and to select local content; we do not store a history of your movements. You can decline location and choose your places manually instead, and you can revoke the permission at any time in your device settings.

Purchases. If you subscribe to PureSource Premium, Apple or Google processes the payment. We receive the subscription status and transaction records needed to unlock your subscription — we never receive your card number or billing address.

Usage and diagnostics. Articles viewed and interactions (likes, dislikes, notifications opened), and, in the app, crash reports and performance data such as start-up time and error traces.

Advertising identifiers. The free tier of the app shows advertising supplied by Google AdMob. Advertising requires a device advertising identifier (on iOS, the IDFA) and advertising interaction data. See section 4.

2. How We Use Your Information

To operate your account, personalise your feed, deliver local news and weather, publish and moderate comments, deliver and restore your subscription, diagnose crashes and performance problems, and — in the free tier of the app only — to show advertising. We do not sell your personal information.

3. Tracking and Your Choice (App)

The free tier of the app uses your device's advertising identifier for third-party advertising, which Apple defines as tracking. On iOS the app asks for your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before any advertising is initialised.

If you decline, the app does not use your advertising identifier and requests non-personalised ads instead. You can change your answer at any time in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security → Tracking. PureSource Premium removes advertising entirely.

The website serves third-party advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may set cookies in your browser, or read cookies already there, to select and measure the ads you see, including personalised ads where you have consented to them.

Where consent is required by law — in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and those US states with applicable privacy laws — we ask for it through Google’s consent management platform before personalised advertising is enabled, and you can change your answer at any time from the privacy controls in that message. You can review or limit how Google uses your data at My Ad Center, and opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

On the website we use browser localStorage to hold guest preferences and your authentication token. We set no analytics or advertising cookies of our own.

Third parties do set cookies on the website: Google AdSense and its advertising partners use advertising cookies to serve and measure ads, subject to the consent choice described in section 3, and Google Funding Choices stores that choice so we do not ask you again on every visit. Cloudflare Web Analytics measures aggregate traffic and does not use cookies or track you across sites. In the app the equivalent settings are stored on your device.

6. Retention and Deletion

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Crash and performance reports are retained by Sentry under its standard retention period and are then deleted automatically. Transaction records are retained as long as we are required to keep them for tax and audit purposes.

You can delete your account and all associated personal data at any time from inside the app — Profile → Delete Account — or on the website from the Profile page. Deletion removes your account, preferences, saved locations, profile picture, comment history, any reports you filed and any blocks you set. It cannot be undone. You may also remove selected personal information while keeping your account. Guest preferences can be cleared by clearing local storage or, in the app, by deleting the app.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. You can exercise access and deletion directly in the app or on the website; for anything else write to us at the address below and we will respond within the period your local law allows.

8. Children

PureSource News reports on real-world events including crime and armed conflict. It is rated 16+ and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes

If we change this policy we will update the effective date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email.
