Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Sproat exited his start against the Cleveland Guardians in the fourth inning on Wednesday night due to a right hamstring cramp. He left the game after throwing an 0-1 pitch for a ball to Steven Kwan.

Brewers head athletic trainer Brad Epstein went to the pitcher's mound to check on Sproat. Chad Patrick replaced Sproat in the bullpen. Brewers manager Pat Murphy stated that Sproat was not seriously injured. "It's just a cramp," Murphy said. "He was fine."

Sproat indicated he was dealing with the cramp for much of the fourth inning. "The whole fourth inning, whenever my back leg would swing around, that hamstring wanted to cramp up on me," Sproat said. He attempted to continue pitching, stating, "Trying to push through it, and it just kind of got worse as I kept going on."

Sproat allowed two walks and a single to the first three batters in the fourth inning before Daniel Schneemann hit a grand slam. Sproat retired David Fry on a pop fly before his departure during Kwan's plate appearance. Despite the issue, Sproat stated he would not miss any time. "But we went and got it checked out with the trainers and stuff like that, and I'm not going to miss any time," he said. Murphy confirmed Sproat's availability, saying, "He'll be able to make his next start."

Sproat had retired nine straight batters through the first three innings of the game. Christian Yelich hit a home run in the first inning for the Brewers. William Contreras and Jake Bauers drew walks in the first inning, and Sal Frelick drove in two runs with a double. The Brewers led 5-0 after two innings. Cooper Pratt recorded his first major league hit in the second inning, and David Hamilton bunted Pratt over. Yelich drove in Hamilton with a single in the second, and Yelich scored on a Brice Turang double. Jackson Chourio hit his tenth home run of the year in the fourth inning, which was his fourth home run of the homestand. Chad Patrick struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings in relief and allowed one hit. Andrew Vaughn hit an RBI double in the eighth inning, and Pratt tallied his first career RBI with a single in the same inning. Grant Anderson closed the game for the Brewers, who defeated the Guardians 9-4. Shane Drohan is scheduled to start for Milwaukee on Thursday.

The Brewers acquired Sproat in a January trade that included sending Freddy Peralta to the New York Mets. Sproat has a 1-4 record and a 5.94 ERA in his first full major league season.
