SPIESEN-ELVERSBERG — SV Elversberg confirmed the signing of 20-year-old attacker Cole Campbell from Borussia Dortmund on July 9, 2026. Campbell signed a contract with SV Elversberg that extends until the summer of 2030.
SV Elversberg paid an estimated 6 million euros to Borussia Dortmund for Campbell. As part of the transfer agreement, Borussia Dortmund secured a buy-back option for the player. The signing comes as SV Elversberg prepares for its return to the Bundesliga.
Christian Weber, Elversberg's sporting director, commented on the acquisition. "With Cole, we are signing another highly talented player who will help us tremendously with his exceptional pace and his ability in one-on-one situations. We have been working to bring him in for some time and are delighted that he has chosen us," Weber said.
Campbell expressed his perspective on the move. "The conversations with the people responsible at the club were very open from the beginning and continued to develop in a very positive way. I have the feeling that I am joining an exciting team with a lot of potential, where I can make a real contribution. That is why I am convinced that this move to Elversberg is exactly the right step. I am looking forward to the team and this new chapter at the club," Campbell said.
Lars Ricken, Borussia Dortmund's managing director of sports, also commented on the transfer. "Cole is an incredibly talented player with a lot of potential. He made the leap to professional soccer with us. We thank Cole for his time with us and wish him all the best for his future, both on and off the field," Ricken said.
Campbell made seven competitive appearances for Borussia Dortmund's first team, including matches in the Bundesliga, the UEFA Champions League, and the DFB-Pokal. He made his professional debut with Borussia Dortmund during the 2024–25 season. During the second half of the previous season, Campbell was on loan to TSG Hoffenheim, where he made five Bundesliga appearances.
Campbell joined Borussia Dortmund's youth setup from Iceland in 2022. He appeared in 58 competitive matches for Borussia Dortmund's youth teams, scoring 19 goals. He was part of the Borussia Dortmund U19 team that won the A-Junior Bundesliga West championship in both 2023 and 2024. Campbell was born in Houston and holds both U.S. and Icelandic citizenship, having played for the Iceland Under-17s before joining the United States' youth sides.
Why It Matters
SV Elversberg's acquisition of Cole Campbell represents an investment as the club returns to the Bundesliga. The 6 million euro transfer fee and the inclusion of a buy-back option for Borussia Dortmund reflect the potential seen in the young attacker. Campbell's experience across multiple top-tier competitions and his historical performance in youth leagues could contribute to Elversberg's performance in the upcoming season.
