TORONTO — The Golden State Valkyries defeated the Toronto Tempo 83-75 on July 8, 2026, marking their sixth consecutive victory and establishing a new franchise record for winning streaks. This win was also the Valkyries' first victory over the Toronto Tempo.

Janelle Salaün led the Golden State scoring with 26 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the field. Salaün made 5-of-6 attempts from 3-point range, including 3-of-3 from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter. Kaitlyn Chen contributed 16 points for Golden State, tying her career high with seven field goals. Kayla Thornton added 15 points and recorded nine rebounds for the Valkyries.

Golden State scored 11 points in the first quarter and maintained a 44-31 lead with 8:55 remaining in the third quarter. However, Toronto executed a 15-2 scoring run to take the lead, ending the third quarter with a 59-57 advantage. The Valkyries then outscored Toronto 26-16 in the fourth quarter.

Toronto Tempo coach Sandy Brondello noted the back-and-forth nature of the game. "It was a game of runs. The first and third quarters belonged to us, while the second and fourth belonged to them," Brondello said. She also mentioned Salaün's performance, stating, "They kept throwing different looks at us, and Janelle Salaün got hot down the stretch."

Golden State's reserves outscored Toronto's reserves 52-20. Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase commented on the team's ability to overcome challenges. "Playing through adversity has been the key. The last two games, specifically, we didn't start out really well," Nakase said.

Isabelle Harrison led Toronto with a career-high 24 points and recorded eight rebounds. Harrison scored six of Toronto's first 10 points. Marina Mabrey contributed 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists for Toronto. Mabrey had been named the Toronto Tempo's first WNBA All-Star the day before the game.

Toronto played without Brittney Sykes, who missed her seventh consecutive game due to left plantar fascia issues, and Kiki Rice, who was out with an ankle sprain. Nyara Sabally experienced a knee issue during the game for Toronto. The Tempo's record stands at 9-12, and they have lost three consecutive games. Golden State won the rebounding battle 31-23, including an 11-4 advantage in offensive rebounds.

The Golden State Valkyries' record is now 16-7. Golden State is scheduled to visit the Connecticut Sun on Friday, July 10. Toronto will host the Dallas Wings in Montreal on Friday.
