WINCHESTER — Matt Naumec defeated Aidan Monahan 3 and 1 on Thursday, July 9, 2026, to advance to the semifinals of the Mass Amateur golf tournament. He will face Aidan Emmerich on Friday at Winchester Country Club.

The semifinal match between Naumec and Emmerich is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. Emmerich, a member of Kernwood Country Club and a Swampscott resident, reached the semifinals of this tournament in the previous year. The winners of the semifinals will play 36 holes on Saturday, July 11, to determine the 118th Mass Amateur champion.

During his quarterfinal match against Monahan, Naumec was 1-up through 13 holes. Monahan birdied the 14th hole to square the match. Naumec then won the ensuing three holes, shooting par on each.

Naumec also earned a spot in the Round of 32 of the 118th Mass Amateur tournament after finishing stroke play tied for third at 2-under on Tuesday, July 7. He was part of one of only four groups to complete their rounds that day. In the Round of 32, Naumec defeated Kyle Tibbetts with a birdie on the fourth playoff hole on Wednesday, July 8.

The match against Tibbetts concluded at 8:11 p.m., with the official sunset on July 8, 2026, recorded at 8:23 p.m. Tibbetts played 43 holes on Wednesday, and his caddie's Apple Watch recorded 13.2 miles walked by the third playoff hole. "So he walked a half marathon today," Naumec said.

During the match, Tibbetts missed a three-foot putt on the 18th hole that would have clinched the win. Naumec had prepared to offer congratulations on the green at 7:25 p.m. "Kyle's a phenomenal putter and I completely thought it was over," Naumec said.

Naumec and Tibbetts traded birdies on holes 8 through 11. Tibbetts birdied the par-3 14th hole to square the match, which remained tied for the next seven holes. This was the first time Naumec and Tibbetts had played each other in a Mass Golf event. Naumec won the Mass Amateur tournament in 2024 and was a finalist in 2023.
