ATLANTA — LSU women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey posted on social media on July 9, 2026, ahead of the Atlanta Dream's game against the Seattle Storm. In the post, Mulkey praised former players Angel Reese and Flau'jae Johnson, who were scheduled to play in the WNBA matchup.

Mulkey wrote, "Wow! I watched my girls bring a Natty to LSU and now I'm seeing them shine in the @WNBA !" She added, "Proud to watch these two @LSUwbkb Tigers tonight in Atlanta!" and encouraged followers to "Tune in on @PrimeVideo at 7:00 pm CT!"

The Atlanta Dream defeated the Seattle Storm 89-78 in Atlanta. During the game, Reese recorded 18 points and 11 rebounds, marking her 15th double-double of the 2026 season. This performance surpassed Tina Charles for the most double-doubles in a player's first three WNBA seasons. Reese exited the contest with 1:19 remaining after rolling her right ankle. Johnson contributed 12 points for Seattle.

Reese and Johnson were teammates on the LSU women's basketball team that won the 2023 NCAA national championship. Reese joined the program before the 2022-23 season and was named the NCAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Player in 2023. Johnson earned the title of SEC Freshman of the Year in 2023 and was a two-time First-Team All-SEC selection at LSU.

Johnson was selected eighth overall in the 2026 WNBA Draft and was traded from the Golden State Valkyries to the Seattle Storm on draft night. The Seattle Storm committed 21 turnovers in the game. The Atlanta Dream entered the contest on a five-game losing streak. Seattle had previously defeated Atlanta 105-90 on June 27, 2026.
