WASHINGTON, D.C. — Donald Trump Jr. became involved with GrabaGun, an online gun retailer, in December 2025 and was given 300,000 shares in the company. GrabaGun went public shortly after his involvement began, with Trump Jr. present at the New York Stock Exchange to ring the bell.
His involvement followed an executive order signed by President Donald Trump in February 2025. This order instructed the Justice Department to investigate infringements of Second Amendment rights.
According to The New York Times, the Trump administration is attempting to eliminate more than three dozen rules relating to gun safety. These proposed changes include a plan by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to remove the requirement for in-person background checks for gun purchases, a measure that stemmed from a 1968 congressional mandate, The Washington Post reported. Additionally, the Department of Justice's Office of Legal Counsel determined that a century-old ban on mailing handguns is unconstitutional. The administration is proceeding to order the Post Office to revoke the regulation banning the mailing of handguns.
Other rules the administration is attempting to eliminate involve raising the legal threshold for revoking a dealer's license and extending gun rights to buyers previously restricted due to mental illness or an inability to manage their finances, The New York Times reported. The administration is also working to end extra scrutiny of stabilizing braces.
Donald Trump Jr. serves on GrabaGun's board, and he acts as a spokesman and marketing consultant for the company. Reuters reported that industry experts say the changes in gun laws are expected to drive growth in online gun sales.
Why It Matters
The timeline of events places Donald Trump Jr.'s acquisition of shares and active involvement with GrabaGun after the Trump administration initiated efforts to relax gun safety regulations. These regulatory changes include the potential elimination of in-person background checks and the ban on mailing handguns. The administration's moves align with objectives to broaden gun access, which industry experts predict will drive growth in online firearms transactions.
