TORONTO — Rogers Communications Inc. agreed to acquire the remaining 25 percent stake in Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment from Kilmer Sports Inc. on July 6, 2026. The purchase price is C$4.35 billion, giving Rogers full ownership of the company. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, pending league approvals.

The acquisition ends Larry Tanenbaum's 28-year tenure as a shareholder and longtime chairman of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. Tony Staffieri, President and CEO of Rogers, described the acquisition as "a defining moment for Rogers." Staffieri added that the move creates "even more opportunity to invest in championship-calibre teams."

Edward Rogers, Executive Chair of Rogers, commented on the company's commitment to its new holdings. "Winning is everything for fans and we're committed to investing to bring championships to Canada as a proud owner and long-term steward of these beloved teams," Rogers said. Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment owns several sports franchises, including the NHL team Toronto Maple Leafs, and teams in both the NBA and MLS.
