HARRIS COUNTY — Two motorists were arrested for Driving While Intoxicated after striking Harris County Constable Precinct 5 patrol vehicles on July 5, 2026. The incidents occurred during a nighttime closure of the westbound Katy Freeway near Westgreen Boulevard.
Deputies with Precinct 5's Toll Road Division were at the scene responding to a stranded commercial motor vehicle that was leaking fuel. Marked Precinct 5 units with activated emergency lights were positioned to protect the closure of the freeway.
The two drivers struck patrol vehicles in separate incidents. One Precinct 5 SUV sustained heavy rear-end damage, which included a crumpled hatch and a torn rear bumper area. No individuals sustained serious injuries in the crashes.
One deputy was transported to a local hospital, where they were reported to be in good condition. Deputies observed signs of intoxication in both drivers involved in the collisions. Both suspects were arrested for Driving While Intoxicated after field sobriety tests were administered. One of the drivers faces a felony Driving While Intoxicated charge due to two previous convictions. The Harris County Constable Precinct 5 is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collisions and the extent of the property damage to the patrol vehicles.
