Hamburg's head of sport, Kathleen Krüger, stated the club will not pay the €20 million option fee for Fábio Vieira. Sporting director Claus Costa is working to find a resolution with Arsenal regarding the player's potential transfer.

Arsenal loaned Fábio Vieira to Hamburg with an agreement that included an option to buy the player for approximately €20 million. Hamburg is willing to pay around €10 million, which is roughly half of the agreed option fee. Arsenal is not prepared to accept Hamburg's current offer.

Kathleen Krüger confirmed the club's stance, stating, "The price being quoted is not realistic for us." Hamburg's current upper limit for a transfer fee for Fábio Vieira is just under €10 million. The club does not intend to exceed this financial limit as it does not want to restrict itself while pursuing other potential targets.

Both Arsenal and Hamburg had been working towards a permanent transfer for Fábio Vieira in June, but a resolution had not been reached. Recently, contact between the two clubs has decreased. Fábio Vieira is keen to return to Hamburg, and he hoped to report for Hamburg's pre-season performance tests on July 6 and July 7.

Arsenal acquired Fábio Vieira in 2022 for €35 million. The Premier League champions believe that another club will offer €20 million plus add-ons for the 26-year-old over the course of the transfer window. Hamburg hopes that no such offer materializes, which might prompt Arsenal to lower their demands. Fábio Vieira finished his loan season as Hamburg's leading scorer with seven goals. He has been training with a private trainer at the Boost Campus, run by former professional Claudio Borges.
