LONDON — Novak Djokovic defeated Roman Safiullin 7-6(6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the fourth round at Wimbledon on July 5, 2026. The victory marked Djokovic's 106th singles win at Wimbledon, surpassing Roger Federer for the most men's singles wins in the tournament's history.

Djokovic has won seven Wimbledon titles, while Federer won eight. Martina Navratilova holds the overall record for most singles wins at Wimbledon with 120. With the win, Djokovic extended his record to 66 Grand Slam quarterfinal appearances.

During the third set, chair umpire Timo Janzen issued a code violation warning to Djokovic for audible obscenity. Djokovic also hit a ball that struck the umpire's chair in the set.

Safiullin, a Russian qualifier ranked 132nd in the ATP rankings, had reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in 2023. In the third round of the 2026 tournament, he defeated João Fonseca, the No. 24 seed, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. Fonseca had previously defeated Djokovic at the French Open.

Media commentator Andy Roddick addressed Djokovic's performance. "It fills me with even more respect for Novak," Roddick said. "Listen, he’s clear of the all-time Slams record. he’s chasing ghosts at this point, and he’s still here grinding every single Slam, it’s just crazy." Roddick added, "You have to like the chances that we see a Novak and Sinner semifinal."

Djokovic will face the winner of the match between Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No. 3 seed, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the quarterfinals. Djokovic lost to Jannik Sinner in straight sets during the 2025 Wimbledon semifinals. Djokovic defeated Sinner in the Australian Open semifinals in January 2026. Sinner leads Djokovic 6-5 in their career head-to-head record.
