HONOLULU — Kelsey Pfendler completed a solo rowing journey from Monterey, California, to Honolulu, Hawaii, arriving on Friday night, July 3, 2026. Her journey covered more than 2,400 miles in just under 44 days.

Pfendler aimed to become the first American woman to row across the mid-Pacific solo, as well as the youngest and fastest woman to complete the journey. Hundreds of people gathered at the harbor to witness her arrival.

Pfendler launched her journey in May 2026, using a 21-foot row boat named Lily. Records from the Ocean Rowing Society International indicate her finishing time was under 44 days. The previous female record for this journey was 86 days, while the male record was 52 days. The Ocean Rowing Society International adjudicates ocean-rowing achievements for Guinness World Records.

During her journey, Pfendler, who is 32 years old, documented her experiences in video diaries shared on social media. She detailed challenges such as blistered hands and difficulty sleeping. She also explained logistics including cooking, sun protection, laundry, and water production. Pfendler has worked as a professional raft guide since she was 18, spending eight years leading trips along the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon.

Pfendler stated that she was rowing to raise awareness and money for the Whale Foundation, which provides health and wellness services to Grand Canyon river guides. "I just love boats in the middle of nowhere," Pfendler said. "If any part of this made at least one person feel a little bit more powerful in their own skin, I couldn't ask for anything else and I'm happy."
