Sussex appointed Ed Warner as its new club chairman on July 3, 2026. Warner succeeds Sir Rod Aldridge, who served as interim chair since February 2026.

Warner previously served as chair of UK Athletics for 10 years. During his tenure, the organization hosted the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the 2017 World Athletics and World Para Athletics Championships in London. He also leads GB Wheelchair Rugby and formerly chaired the Palace for Life Foundation, the charitable arm of Crystal Palace Football Club.

Sussex reported losses of £1.3 million in 2025. The England and Wales Cricket Board maintains strict control over the club's finances. Sussex operates under a salary cap for the next three years and received points deductions in the County Championship, T20 Blast, and One-Day Cup. The club will reduce its playing budget at the end of the 2026 season. Head coach Paul Farbrace will step down at the end of the 2026 campaign, though he may remain in a part-time director of cricket role.

"I recognise there are challenges ahead, but I also see a tremendous opportunity to build on Sussex's many strengths and help shape a successful future," Warner said. "I want to be an advocate for Sussex Cricket and a strong voice for the club within the game." He added, "My role is to help create the environment in which our players, staff and volunteers can succeed, our members and fans can feel proud of the Club they support, and where we continue building a successful and financially sustainable future together."

Sir Rod Aldridge, the president of Sussex Cricket, commented on the appointment. "He combines exceptional business leadership with a proven track record in sports governance and has successfully led complex organisations through periods of change," Aldridge said. "The board is confident we have appointed the right person."
