SAN ANTONIO — Saharan dust arrived in the San Antonio area on June 29, 2026. The atmosphere will feature hazy skies and colorful sunrises and sunsets in the region.

Meteorologist Justin Horne said, "Today's big story will be the arrival of Saharan dust." Gusty winds are present in the area, and the dust is suspended thousands of feet above the ground. "It is flowing into the area as we speak," Horne added.

Horne said, "Skies will be hazy and we'll see some colorful sunrises and sunsets. Otherwise, impacts will be minimal." He explained that because winds are gusty and the dust is suspended thousands of feet aloft, air quality should not be affected too much.

Weather conditions are expected to remain steady through July 4, 2026. Horne noted that the summer doldrums had commenced and would maintain steady conditions through the holiday weekend. Stray showers are possible Thursday through Saturday due to an afternoon sea breeze, but these are not expected to affect Independence Day celebrations. The forecast for July 4, 2026, predicts partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid-90s.
