Apple TV renewed the series “Widow’s Bay” for a second season prior to the premiere of its first season finale on June 17. The streaming service also signed Katie Dippold, the series creator, showrunner, and executive producer, to a multi-year overall development deal.

Apple Studios produces “Widow’s Bay,” which streams on the Apple TV platform. The series premiered on April 29 and consists of 10 episodes. The first season finale was titled “We Hope You Enjoyed Your Time!”

The narrative of “Widow’s Bay” is set on an isolated island in New England. Matthew Rhys portrays Mayor Tom Loftis, a widower attempting to develop the island into a tourist destination. Other cast members include Kate O’Flynn as Patricia, Stephen Root as Wyck, K Callan as Ruth, Dale Dickey as Rosemary, Hamish Linklater as Richard Warren, Sipiwe Moyo as Chelle, Kingston Rumi Southwick as Evan. Jeff Hiller and Kevin Carroll also appear in supporting roles.

Hiro Murai directed five episodes during the first season and serves as an executive producer through Chum Films. Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin, and Matthew Rhys are also executive producers. Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung directed additional episodes in the first season. The series holds a 97 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 76 professional critic reviews. Dippold said in an interview, “I never wanted to have a moment where something scary happens and the characters don’t react truthfully.” Dippold commented on the direction for the second season, stating, “Season two is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about.”

Matt Cherniss, a television executive, said, “From the moment audiences arrived in ‘Widow’s Bay,’ they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew, and the entire team have created.” The service offers an ad-free subscription plan for $12.99 per month. The platform typically releases new episodes at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time on the day before the scheduled premiere date.
