NEW YORK — Christopher Jackson will reprise his role as George Washington in the Broadway musical "Hamilton" at the Richard Rodgers Theatre from Sept. 8 through Jan. 3.

Jackson is the second original cast member to return to the production. Leslie Odom Jr., who reprised his role as Aaron Burr last year, generated over $4 million in weekly revenue for the first time since 2018 with his return. Jackson decided to return after attending the musical's 10th-anniversary events last year.

Jackson received a Tony Award nomination for playing George Washington opposite Lin-Manuel Miranda. He began performing in "Hamilton" during its off-Broadway run in early 2015 and left the Broadway production in November 2016. The Broadway production won 11 Tony Awards, including best new musical, best book, and best score.

Jackson will perform the songs "Right Hand Man", "History Has Its Eyes on You" and "Yorktown" in his return. His character is also featured in the song "Washington on Your Side". Original cast members including Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, Okieriete Onaodowan, Anthony Ramos, and Phillipa Soo performed alongside Jackson.

Prior to "Hamilton", Jackson played Simba in "The Lion King", Benny in "In the Heights" and Delray in "Memphis". He also performed in "After Midnight", "Bronx Bombers" and "Holler If Ya Hear Me". Jackson portrayed Derek Jeter in "Bronx Bombers". Jackson said, "I wanted to touch the thing that I feel turned me into an artist in a way that nothing I'd ever done had done. I wanted it to touch this thing again." He added, "There's a feeling of being alive in a different kind of way in this show. The timing was right and, quite honestly, I needed that infusion and that challenge again."

Jackson has held roles in the television shows "Bull" and "And Just Like That" and performed vocals in the animated film "Moana". He also worked as a composer and songwriter for "The Electric Company" and "Sesame Street". He has returned to Broadway in productions such as "Hell's Kitchen" and "Freestyle Love Supreme". Jackson noted that he has continued to work since his departure from "Hamilton" but that no other role has challenged him in the same way.

No independent assessment of Christopher Jackson’s claims was available.
