FARO — Bonnie Tyler has been taken out of a medically induced coma and remains in an intensive care unit at a hospital in Faro, Portugal, following emergency intestinal surgery. The singer's health condition has led to the cancellation or postponement of all her scheduled performances through the end of August.
Tyler underwent emergency intestinal surgery in May and was subsequently placed in an induced coma to aid her recovery. A spokesperson for Bonnie Tyler's family said, "Bonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal." The spokesperson added, "Although her condition is improving it is a slow process." The spokesperson said, "Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery but it is going to take time." The spokesperson added, "As such we are sorry to tell everyone that we will be cancelling, or postponing until next year where possible, all of our remaining shows this summer."
The 75-year-old singer was scheduled to perform at the Sunshine festival in Worcester in August. A potential rescheduled concert is tentatively projected for October 23 in Bucharest, Romania. Tyler is also booked to perform at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff on December 17.
Born Gaynor Hopkins in Neath, Wales, Tyler released her first single in 1976. Her 1983 song "Total Eclipse of the Heart" held the number one position on the U.K. singles chart for two weeks and on the U.S. singles chart for four weeks. Tyler represented the U.K. at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo, Sweden, and placed 19th with the song "Believe in Me." She was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2023 for services to music.
No independent assessment of Bonnie Tyler’s claims was available.
