BOSTON — The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Boston Celtics 102-92 on Wednesday night. Bones Hyland led the Timberwolves with 23 points on 8-for-14 shooting.

The Timberwolves played without Anthony Edwards and overcame deficits in both the first and third quarters. They trailed by double digits in the first quarter and faced a nine-point deficit in the third quarter before mounting their comeback.

With 10:12 remaining in the fourth quarter, Derrick White drove to the basket and scored a layup to give the Celtics a three-point lead. After that basket, the Celtics did not score for more than five minutes while the Timberwolves scored 16 points during that stretch.

The Timberwolves forced nine turnovers in the second quarter, and the Celtics committed 11 turnovers total in the game.

Hyland called for a matchup against Sam Hauser at the end of the first half and told sideline reporter Zora Stephenson that he got the matchup he wanted. In the second half, Hyland celebrated by wiggling his fingers toward the Celtics' bench after making a three-point shot. When Hugo González fouled him in the paint and Hyland was asked who the foul was on, he pointed at González and yelled "YOU."

Jaylen Brown scored a game-high 29 points on 9-for-26 shooting but shot 2-for-12 over the final stretch after the Timberwolves pulled away. "In that second quarter, we were too lackadaisical with the ball. We just weren't good enough. We didn't play Celtics basketball tonight," Brown said.

Jayson Tatum shot 6-for-16 from the floor for 16 points. He had previously shot 3-for-15 against the Memphis Grizzlies in the Celtics' win on Friday.

Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla addressed the team's offensive struggles in the fourth quarter. "I thought it impacted our screening, it impacted our creating advantages. So I thought that was the tale of the fourth quarter from an offensive standpoint," Mazzulla said.

The victory marked the Timberwolves' first win in Boston since 2005, when they beat the Celtics 99-97. In that game, Kevin Garnett had 21 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists, while Wally Szczerbiak scored 20 points off the bench. Ricky Davis led the Celtics with 22 points and one assist in the 2005 game.
