PORT ARANSAS — Nueces County prosecutors declined to pursue an abusive 911 charge against Larry Cox, a police sergeant for the San Antonio Independent School District. Court records indicate the misdemeanor case against Cox was marked as "no charged."
The district placed Cox on administrative leave following his August arrest. Police received a 911 call on August 1 reporting a disturbance at the Tarpon Inn in Port Aransas, Texas. Responding officers arrived at the location after Cox reported a physical altercation in an adjacent room; however, officers found only one person in the room and determined no physical altercation had occurred.
During a 911 call, Cox asked a 911 dispatcher, "Are you f---ing stupid or what?" According to a police incident report, in a subsequent call, Cox told the dispatcher to "shut the hell up" and stated she had made an error. A police report indicates that Cox's communications with the dispatcher kept the emergency line occupied.
Police records indicate that responding officers observed Cox was heavily intoxicated. According to a police report, Cox told officers he was a sergeant with the San Antonio police department and possessed a firearm in his room. After officers initially cleared the scene, hotel management contacted police to report that Cox was creating another disturbance. Officers returned to the hotel parking lot and took Cox into custody.
