LAKE FOREST — Orange County sheriff’s deputies fired weapons at a man on April 24 in Lake Forest after a vehicle pursuit. The incident followed a report of a disturbance involving a former boyfriend and his ex-girlfriend.

Investigators released body-worn camera footage of the incident on June 8. A 911 caller reported just before 2:30 a.m. that a former boyfriend was banging on his ex-girlfriend's door near Antonio Parkway and Cow Camp Road. The resident pushed the man back and locked the door. The resident also told dispatchers that doorbell camera footage showed the former boyfriend pulling a gun from his waistband.

Deputies arrived at the residence and found the man had already left. Deputies located the suspect’s vehicle at Rimgate Park on Rimgate Drive in Lake Forest just before 4 a.m. Deputies activated emergency lights while approaching the parked vehicle, which then drove away. The suspect's vehicle stopped following a pursuit.

The suspect exited the vehicle and ran toward a deputy's patrol car. Three deputies fired their weapons at the man, and ten gunshots were audible on the body-worn camera footage. The man was hospitalized with initially critical injuries. Deputies searched the suspect and applied a tourniquet at the scene before his transport to a hospital.

Sgt. Lisbeth Gwisdalla stated the man is expected to survive. Investigators recovered a knife and a handgun at the scene. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department stated the man will be booked on suspicion of multiple felonies upon his release from the hospital.
