The Court of Arbitration for Sport said it will rule on Senegal's appeal as swiftly as possible after the team was stripped of the Africa Cup of Nations title. The international sports court said there is no timeline for a decision on the appeal at this stage.

Senegal lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport seeking to regain the title after the Confederation of African Football ruled that the team had forfeited the final match. Following an appeal by the Moroccan FA, the confederation ruled that Senegal had forfeited the match and recorded the result as a 3-0 victory for Morocco.

The disputed match took place on January 18, when Senegal beat Morocco 1-0 in the Africa Cup of Nations final. During the game, Senegal's players walked off the pitch in protest when hosts Morocco were awarded a stoppage-time penalty before returning to complete the match. Senegal were stripped of the Africa Cup of Nations title after the confederation's ruling. The match result was changed to a 3-0 victory for Morocco.

"We understand that teams and fans are eager to know the final decision, and we will ensure that arbitration proceedings are conducted as swiftly as possible, while respecting the right of all parties to a fair hearing," said Matthieu Reeb, director general of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Raymond Hack, the former head of the Confederation of African Football's disciplinary panel, said the appeal process could take about six months to conclude and would be ongoing during the World Cup.
