PROVIDENCE — The No. 5 Blackstone Valley co-op hockey team defeated No. 2 Lincoln High School 3-2 in the Rhode Island Division II championship game with a goal by Jaxon Boyes in the fourth overtime period. The game took place on March 18, 2026, at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence.

The victory marked the Blackstone Valley co-op hockey team's first state title. The team wore a red heart emblem featuring the initials "RD", "AD", and "GD" on their jerseys throughout the Rhode Island Division II hockey tournament.

With 32.2 seconds left in regulation in the title game, Colin Dorgan released a shot that tied the score at 2-2 and forced overtime. Dorgan scored four goals over Blackstone Valley's last three games in the tournament.

Less than a week before the championship game, Colin Dorgan scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to lift Blackstone Valley past Portsmouth in the Rhode Island Division II semifinals. During the semifinal game, Colin Dorgan wore a patch on his chest bearing the initials of his mother, brother, and grandfather.

On Feb. 16, Dorgan's mother, Rhonda Dorgan, and his 23-year-old brother, Aidan Dorgan, were killed when his father, Robert Dorgan, opened fire on the family and then died by suicide at the scene. More than a week later, Dorgan's grandfather, Gerald Dorgan, died from injuries sustained in the shooting.

"They're with me every step of the way. Throughout all of the playoffs, even in this game, and the overtimes, I truly felt it in my heart and my soul that they're still with me," said Colin Dorgan, high school hockey player.

"The outpouring of love and support that was sent our way from all over North America, it's just been nothing but spectacular, and it made the difference ... We won it because of love," said Chris Librizzi, head coach.
