BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS — David Ortiz delivered a pregame speech that included profanity before the Boston Red Sox's first game following the Boston Marathon bombings on April 20, 2013. The game took place five days after the bombings.

Ortiz, the Boston Red Sox designated hitter, took the field during a somber pregame ceremony. "This jersey that we wear today, it doesn't say Red Sox, it says Boston," Ortiz said during his remarks.

"This is our [expletive] city, and nobody is gonna dictate our freedom. Stay strong. Thank you," Ortiz said in concluding his speech.

Ortiz thanked city and state officials for their response to the bombing during his remarks. The Federal Communications Commission did not penalize Ortiz for his use of profanity in his pregame remarks.
