COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA — Ninth-seeded USC defeated eighth-seeded Clemson 71-67 in overtime in the women's NCAA tournament. Freshman Jazzy Davidson scored 31 points in her women's NCAA tournament debut, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 1:03 remaining in overtime.

The game went to overtime after officials waved off a regulation buzzer basket by Clemson's Mia Moore. Officials determined after review that the shot clock had not properly started with 4.4 seconds remaining when Clemson inbounded the ball.

Moore had made a running basket at the regulation buzzer, and Clemson players ran onto the court in celebration. The celebration was short-lived as officials overturned the shot following their review.

Clemson led 64-61 with 2:34 remaining in overtime before USC mounted its comeback. Davidson hit a tying three-pointer in overtime after Malia Samuels rebounded a missed shot by Davidson and passed the ball back to her.

Davidson scored on the following possession to give USC the lead in overtime. The 6-foot-1 freshman played all 45 minutes of the game and finished one point shy of her career-high scoring mark.

Kara Dunn scored 22 points for USC as the Trojans improved their record to 18-13 with the victory. USC played the entire season without star JuJu Watkins, who is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in last year's NCAA tournament.

Before the game, Davidson was averaging 17.6 points per game, leading the team. USC had reached the Elite Eight in each of the past two NCAA tournaments.

Morgan Lee hit a three-pointer with nine seconds remaining to bring Clemson within 70-67. Samuels made a free throw to seal the victory for USC.

Taylor Johnson-Matthews scored 16 points for Clemson, while Raven Thompson recorded 11 points and 12 rebounds. USC will face top seed South Carolina in the second round on Monday.
