Danny Welbeck scored inside 14 minutes to give Brighton & Hove Albion the lead. A miscommunication between goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and defender Ibrahima Konaté led to a throw-in that preceded Brighton's opening goal. Milos Kerkez scored an equalizer for Brighton & Hove Albion after 30 minutes. Welbeck scored a second goal in the second half to secure the victory.

Liverpool played without Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker, both unavailable due to injury. Brighton & Hove Albion's Hugo Ekitike was substituted after sustaining a dead leg injury eight minutes into the match.

Liverpool had approximately 60 hours to recover after defeating Galatasaray in a UEFA Champions League match on Wednesday. Brighton & Hove Albion had not played since their visit to Sunderland the previous Saturday.

Liverpool have conceded 42 goals in Premier League matches this season, surpassing their totals from each of the previous two campaigns. The team has been outrun by opponents in 27 of their 31 Premier League matches this season.

The last time Liverpool lost 10 Premier League matches in a single season was in 2015-16. During the 2015-16 season, Jurgen Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool manager midseason.

The defeat followed a draw with Tottenham Hotspur in Liverpool's previous Premier League match, after which some Liverpool supporters at Anfield booed manager Arne Slot and the players.

"You just heard about late goals and I think today sums it all up in terms of injury problems in this season," Slot said following the Brighton match.

"My job is to find answers, and that's what I tried to do again today," the Liverpool manager said.

Mamardashvili made several saves after halftime in the match. Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo each had shots saved by Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
