FULLERTON — St. John Bosco won the Southern Section Division 1 baseball championship on May 29, 2026, defeating Norco 2-0. The game was played at Cal State Fullerton’s Goodwin Field before a crowd of 4,762.

Julian Garcia pitched for St. John Bosco, striking out 14 batters, allowing one hit, and issuing zero walks. He threw pitches at 95 mph throughout the contest. The only hit against him came in the first inning when Norco’s Codey Brown hit a double.

St. John Bosco scored its first run in the fifth inning when Miles Clark hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Moises Razo. Jack Champlin added an RBI triple in the sixth inning to secure the second and final run of the game.

Garcia, who is committed to play baseball at Long Beach State, had missed St. John Bosco’s 2025 championship win while recovering from elbow ligament surgery using the InternalBrace procedure. "This is what every high school team plays the season for to win this championship," Garcia said. "It was something that shattered my heart last year that I didn’t play. I told my teammates for the last three outs, ‘Let’s do it.’"

Andy Rojo, head coach of St. John Bosco’s baseball team, said, "For me, it’s the story of the year. It was the arc of redemption. He deserved that moment."

Norco pitcher Jordan Ayala struck out 10 batters and allowed three hits in the loss. Norco third baseman Jayden Serna said of Garcia, "He looked really good. He had his best stuff. It’s tough. It hurts right now."

Norco, which finished the 2026 season with a 28-5 record, was seeking its first baseball title in school history. The team is expected to return eight starters in 2027. St. John Bosco ended its 2026 season with a 27-5 record after its players voted to continue playing in the Southern California Regional tournament instead of joining their club teams.
