COOLCREST NEIGHBORHOOD — Roland Hernandez, 41, was arrested in the Coolcrest neighborhood of Bexar County, Texas, after allegedly catcalling a woman and threatening multiple people with a machete. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) responded to a disturbance near the 11900 block of White Birch Street and Silver Maple around 1:30 p.m. on Friday.

After being confronted by someone for catcalling, Hernandez allegedly threatened that person and others in the area with a machete. He retreated into his home when BCSO deputies arrived. Crisis negotiators attempted to communicate with him but received no response.

BCSO introduced tear gas into Hernandez’s residence in an attempt to get him to exit. When tear gas failed to elicit a response, the SWAT team attempted to enter the residence, at which point Hernandez surrendered. He was taken into custody after 7 p.m.

Investigators obtained a felony warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the incident, and Hernandez has been formally charged with that offense. Sheriff Javier Salazar stated that this is Roland Hernandez’s 25th arrest. Hernandez’s criminal history dates back to 2002, according to jail records, and includes prior charges for violent crimes and “serious” narcotics offenses.

A woman related to Hernandez was detained at the scene and is likely to be charged with hindering apprehension. According to BCSO, the woman was reportedly “getting in the way of the situation.” She has not been publicly identified.
