NORTHEAST HOUSTON — The Restoration Team completed its 500th home restoration on the 8100 block of Penrod Street in northeast Houston. The nonprofit volunteer organization, which began as a Hurricane Harvey recovery effort, budgeted $45,000 for repairs to the home of resident William Pierre.

Pierre, a 51-year-old who has lived in northeast Houston for 27 years, said the main problem was a leaking roof. "The main problem was my roof, it was leaking." The initial scope of work focused on roof replacement, but crews later determined more extensive repairs were needed. Exterior work is expected to wrap up soon, with interior renovations planned to follow.

"You thought there was a catch… you thought this is too good to be true? Yes. But then you realized it was divine intervention? Yes it was," Pierre said.

Trevor Barnett founded The Restoration Team as a volunteer initiative at his church. "I started this as a volunteer at my church." The group has since grown into a collaboration involving multiple churches, nonprofit partners, private donors, and volunteers.

"This is the 500th home The Restoration Team is restoring," Barnett said. He noted the organization’s goal to assist 100 families annually in northeast Houston by 2028.
