SPRING, TEXAS — Compassion for Community is holding a back-to-school giveaway at North Central Church in Spring, Texas. The event is scheduled for Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. and ending in the early afternoon.

The organization is distributing nearly 2,000 pairs of new shoes to students. Volunteers are also distributing 1,700 backpacks filled with school supplies alongside the shoes. Nearly 2,000 people are expected to attend the event.

The shoes include brands such as Adidas and Nike. Volunteers measure each child's feet to ensure proper fit before distribution. Children are allowed to choose the style and color of their shoes.

"We want to give out the right size of shoe for the student, so we actually measure and size their feet," Compassion for Community representative Adam Sanchez said. "We give them options. We want to bless our children with something that they want to actually wear." Sanchez described the operation as a high-volume effort. "We like to call it controlled chaos," he said.

Compassion for Community requires 200 volunteers for the event, with specific teams needing training, as detailed on North Central Church's event page. The annual giveaway began in 2018. Compassion for Community has provided 'hundreds of shoes and backpacks' annually since its 2018 inception, according to its mission statement.

"We did our job. We did what we set out to do," Sanchez said.

The distribution of nearly 2,000 pairs of shoes and 1,700 backpacks represents a significant allocation of resources for students in the Spring area. The event relies on a structured volunteer force to manage the logistics of fitting and selection for the expected attendees.
