SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Food Bank has launched its 2026 Summer Meals for Kids campaign with a goal of providing 20 million meals to children facing hunger during the summer school break. One in four children in the San Antonio area experiences food insecurity during this period.

Eric Cooper, President and CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank, said, "Our busiest time of the year is the summer. We’ll be making tens of thousands of meals over the summer months to make sure kids don’t miss those meals." He added that summer is the busiest time for the food bank because families must budget extra for childcare and additional groceries during the 11-week break. Cooper also noted that rising grocery and fuel prices compound the challenges families face. Cooper emphasized the scale of need, stating, "Just in Bexar County, there’s about 200,000 kids that were fed at school that will now be home and hungry." The food bank’s goal is to meet this increased demand without cutting back on services.

Thanks to an anonymous donor match, every $1 donated will provide 14 meals to San Antonio children during the campaign. The food bank is also accepting non-perishable food donations through June 28, 2026, at multiple Raising Cane’s, RBFCU, and Gamez Law Firm locations across San Antonio, Schertz, New Braunfels, Boerne, and Live Oak.

H-E-B collection events will take place on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 9238 N Loop 1604 W; Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 20935 US Hwy 281; and Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 17460 I-35 N in Schertz, all from 4 to 6:30 p.m. On June 10, Raising Cane’s will donate 15% of purchases made at any San Antonio area location to the food bank if customers mention KENS Cares.

The food bank, alongside Texas school districts, will prepare meals in its culinary center for distribution to nearly 200 community sites. It is also delivering boxes of groceries to enrolled families to help them prepare meals at home. Cooper emphasized that the programs rely on food donations, financial support, and volunteers.
