NEW BRAUNFELS — Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo in New Braunfels is seeking public input to name two baby capybaras born on April 29. The zoo is accepting name suggestions via comments on its Facebook or Instagram pages and is requesting gender-neutral options, as the sex of the pups has not yet been determined.

The capybara pups were born to parents Kiwi and Enzo and currently live at the zoo alongside two other capybaras, Dandy and Katy. Capybaras are highly social animals that typically live in groups of at least 10 in the wild, often near waterways in Central and South America. Known as the world’s largest rodent, they stand between 3.2 and 4.2 feet tall and weigh between 60 and 170 pounds. They are herbivores, feeding on grass, plants, melons, and other vegetation, and can stay submerged underwater for up to five minutes.

“Watching these two grow alongside Kiwi and Enzo has been a special experience for our team.” Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo Deputy Director Jarrod Forthman said in a statement. “Capybaras are incredibly social animals, and we're excited to invite our guests and followers to help choose names that can grow with these babies as we learn more about them.”

The baby capybaras may be ready for public viewing during guests’ next visit, depending on factors such as weather, care, and comfort needs. The zoo is located at 5640 Interstate 35 in New Braunfels, approximately 52 miles southwest of Austin.
