NEW YORK CITY — Wendy's hosted a World Redhead Day look-alike contest in New York City on May 26, 2026. The event took place at 19 Fulton St. at Seaport Square, with check-in beginning at 3:30 p.m. and judging running from 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The contest featured three rounds: a costume presentation, a social media post performance, and an original commercial performance. The winner received free Dave’s Single hamburgers for one year.

World Redhead Day is observed annually on May 26. Wendy's said in a press release that redheads “bring a bold, unmistakable energy that turns heads and leaves an impression.” The company added that the holiday “reflects that same mindset: one that celebrates being unforgettable instead of blending in.”

Less than 2% of the world's population has red hair. In the United States, redheads make up between 1% and 4% of the population. Redheads are not going extinct, despite recurring debunked internet claims. A 2014 study found that 30% of primetime television advertisements included someone with red hair.
