HOUSTON — Nextdoor published its 2026 Houston affordability report, naming Benton Place the city's most affordable neighborhood and ranking 10 areas where buyers and renters may find lower cost-of-living conditions. The report analyzed housing costs, income and broader economic data to identify the rankings.

The top 10 Houston neighborhoods, in order of affordability, are Benton Place, Lyncrest, Forum Park, Saunders Road, Westwood-South, Scarlet Robin Lane, Ranchester, Meadowbrook, Bayou Oaks 2 and Port Houston. The full rankings are available on Nextdoor's website.

The rankings are based on third-party economic data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Tax Foundation and the Bureau of Economic Analysis, combined with activity and engagement data from Nextdoor platform users. The underlying data included median home values, rental prices, regional price parity and tax rates.

What makes Nextdoor uniquely valuable is that we can go beyond the listing price and help people understand the real financial picture of a neighborhood."

Nextdoor said its Affordability Score functions as an index ranking neighborhoods within the same city, combining neighborhood-level housing and cost-of-living indicators, including rents, home values and other economic measures, along with platform data. The company said neighborhoods in different cities should not be directly compared because each city's rankings are calculated independently.

Nextdoor describes Benton Place as a quiet, family-friendly neighborhood known for tree-lined streets, well-maintained homes and easy access to city amenities. Lyncrest is described as having a mix of older homes and new construction with a quiet residential feel and convenient access to Houston's city center, while Forum Park offers local parks and public transportation links.

Saunders Road is described as a peaceful residential area with well-kept homes and a strong sense of community, and Westwood-South features a diverse community with access to major highways. Scarlet Robin Lane is described as quiet and suited to families and retirees, while Ranchester is noted for its multicultural character, diverse food scene and proximity to Chinatown.

Meadowbrook offers access to downtown Houston and nearby parks, according to Nextdoor's descriptions. Bayou Oaks 2 features bayou access and greenery, and Port Houston combines residential and commercial areas near one of the busiest seaports in the world, giving it an industrial character.
