NORTH KNOXVILLE — The KnoxWalls Murals & Music Festival will take place on May 30 from noon to 8 p.m. at Emory Place in North Knoxville. The event will feature a one-day painting competition, live performances, and an open-air art and music experience.

Ten muralists will compete in the painting competition, with festival attendees voting on the winning artist. First and second place winners will receive permanent commissions at sites around Knoxville.

After the competition, completed temporary 8x8 murals will be auctioned. Some of the proceeds from the mural auction will go toward Dogwood Arts' Mural Program to fund more public art projects across the city.

The festival will also include an interactive art experience for kids. Artists and vendors interested in participating can apply online.

The festival project is part of KnoxWalls at Emory Place, in partnership with Visit Knoxville and Lilienthal Gallery. KnoxWalls at Emory Place is the largest mural project in city history.

The festival is open to the public for the full eight-hour run of the event. The painting competition, mural auction, live performances, and interactive kids' art experience are all scheduled within the single-day program. Emory Place is located in the North Knoxville neighborhood. Dogwood Arts' Mural Program supports public art projects across the city, and a portion of auction proceeds will contribute to that fund. Artists and vendors who wish to be part of the festival may submit applications online ahead of the event.
