HOUSTON — A woman armed with a knife stabbed a married couple and chased others at a southeast Houston apartment complex Wednesday night, the Houston Police Department said. Javon Latriece Alix has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The attacks began near a convenience store before moving into the parking lot of an apartment complex along Broadway Street. According to investigators, the incident started around 9 p.m. when a woman described as being in her 40s approached a man near the convenience store and chased him with a knife. The man managed to escape before the suspect moved toward the apartment complex.
Surveillance video shows several people taking shelter inside the store as the suspect approaches the door with knives in her hands. The people held the door shut as the suspect tried to get inside.
The suspect then chased a woman and her 7-year-old daughter. "She actually told them she was going to stab them if they didn't run, so they started running. Luckily, they made it up into the apartment complex and got inside their apartment before she could get them." HPD Lt. R. Wilkens said.
The suspect stabbed the wife three times in the stomach and stabbed the husband twice in the stomach and once in the back. The couple returned inside their apartment, and family members called 911. Both stabbing victims were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene without incident. Investigators have not determined what triggered the attack and are working to determine whether mental health issues played a role.
"She was obviously in some kind of crisis. We're not sure, she's telling us when we actually took her into custody that she's on seizure medication or something like that so we don't know where all that's going to go just yet." Wilkens said.
