WASHINGTON, D.C. — Thousands of law enforcement officers and supporters gathered in Washington, D.C., for National Police Week 2026, which included the 38th Annual Candlelight Vigil, the 30th anniversary of the Police Unity Tour and the National Police K-9 Memorial Service. The week brought together departments from across the country for memorial events and community gatherings.

At the Candlelight Vigil on the National Mall, 363 fallen officers were honored and their names added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. The Chicago Police Department attended the vigil to honor fallen officers and their families, and officers from the Miami Beach Police Department also traveled to the capital to participate. Hendrickson, whose names were added to the memorial wall. Troopers and supporters from eight New Jersey State Police chapters rode approximately 300 miles to Washington in honor of fallen officers.

The Police Unity Tour, marking its 30th anniversary in 2026, raised and donated $2.5 million to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund through its riders, motors and support teams. Lieutenant Joe Massetti and Sergeant Joe Townsend of the Derby Police Department in Connecticut completed an approximately 400-mile ride to Washington for the tour. Sergeant Ibrahim, Officer Debora Viel and former investigator Ricardo Carrion of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington completed the ride of more than 300 miles in honor of fallen Officer Bennett. Members of the Tallahassee Police Department also joined riders from across the country.

The National Police K-9 Memorial Service honored 23 police dogs that died in the line of duty in 2025. The Cary Police Department used the week to spotlight K-9 Nuke, an explosives detection and tracking dog used for security sweeps and deployments.

The Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office honored fallen officers Cameron Girvin and Christopher Reese alongside other officers nationwide, and participated in Law Enforcement United's "Road to Hope" and the RUFF Ride. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department held a public remembrance ceremony on Peace Officers Memorial Day to honor officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The Shenandoah Police Department in Iowa placed a flag for every officer killed in the line of duty over the past year.

"National Police Week is both a time of solemn remembrance and a celebration of the men and women who serve with integrity and bravery every day. It reminds us that behind every badge is a story of service, sacrifice and family," the Shenandoah Police Department wrote. The Anna Police Department thanked officers who continue to serve "with courage, integrity and commitment every day." The Newport Police Department held a "Cookies with a Cop" event during the week.
