BEXAR COUNTY — Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez is scheduled to appear in Bexar County court on May 13, 2026, for a hearing in the murder case over the June 1, 2025, shooting of actor Jonathan Joss. The hearing was reset from February 24, 2026, after defense attorney Nico LaHood and prosecutors told Judge Joel Perez they were still parsing evidence.

Ceja Alvarez was arrested in June 2025 and booked on a murder charge after he admitted to shooting Joss following a dispute between the two. Three days after the shooting, a judge set his bond at $200,000, and he was released from the Bexar County jail, according to court records. He was indicted on a murder charge in November 2025.

Joss, who was 59, was shot just after 7 p.m. on June 1, 2025, in the 200 block of Dorsey Drive near Pleasanton Road on the South Side of Bexar County. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Joss was at the property to check his mail when he was shot, according to a San Antonio Police Department report. A witness saw Ceja Alvarez park behind the vehicle Joss was in and begin arguing with him outside the vehicle, the report said. The witness said Ceja Alvarez threatened to shoot Joss before firing on him with a rifle. After he was detained by a San Antonio Police Department officer, Ceja Alvarez said, "I shot him," according to the police report.

LaHood pointed to Texas self-defense law. "As you know, people in Texas have a right not to be a victim. You have a right to self-defense. You have a right to the defense of third persons legally and under the law, and we believe that applies here," he said.

Joss voiced the character John Redcorn on the animated television series "King Of The Hill" and had a recurring role on the live-action sitcom "Parks and Recreation."
