CALIFORNIA — A California resident in their 50s is caring for their 78-year-old mother with dementia while trying to save money for their teenager's college tuition due in three years.
"I'm stuck," the caregiver said. "I am so screwed. I don't want to lose everything."
The person expects to provide care for an extended period. "I think I've got to take care of her until she dies."
College costs add to the financial strain. "I have to pay for college in three years. The cost is so high, especially in California."
The caregiver said others may not understand the severity of the situation. "I don't think people realize how bad it really gets."
The person also commented on broader demographic trends. "We're being crushed in America with baby boomers becoming seniors."
