SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah court official granted mutual three-year protective orders to Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen at a hearing in Salt Lake City on April 30, 2026, requiring the two to remain at least 100 feet apart. A violation of the orders would result in criminal charges.

Paul, 31, and Mortensen, 33, had filed dueling petitions for protective orders against each other, with each claiming the other had been abusive. The hearing lasted nearly two hours and was the first time the two had been seen together publicly since their domestic violence case made national headlines. Paul arrived late wearing a neutral-toned outfit and carrying a Louis Vuitton tote.

Third District Court Commissioner Russell Minas said both parties had merit to their arguments but should not be together for the sake of their 2-year-old son, Ever. "I'm hoping that you're not people who just thrive on the drama and the conflict. You've got to put your child first and shield the child from this conflict," Minas said. Referring to the prospect of the two remaining in a relationship, he said, "All of the evidence seems to suggest that's a bad idea."

Mortensen has maintained physical custody of Ever, and Paul is allowed supervised visitation. The Draper City Police Department and the West Jordan Police Department opened domestic violence investigations in February following allegations from both Paul and Mortensen.

Speaking after the hearing, Paul's attorney, Eric Swinyard, said, "What we wanted on the DV front was for the relationship to be over. We wanted orders in place." In a statement, Swinyard said, "Taylor was incredibly candid with the court that she is not perfect and owned her faults, which is in direct contrast to how the other party presented their argument, despite evidence and input from law enforcement that showed otherwise."

Jessi Draper filed a statement to the court saying Mortensen had confided in her that he planned to leak embarrassing videos of Paul to TMZ in order to embarrass her. A video released by TMZ showed Paul throwing chairs at Mortensen, with one of the chairs striking a child. The Salt Lake County District Attorney's office declined to file new charges against Paul earlier this month, citing an evidentiary issue with the investigations.

The video of the altercation between Paul and Mortensen led to the cancellation of productions and broadcasts of "The Secret Lives of Mormon Housewives" and "The Bachelorette," which Paul was to star in.
