MINNESOTA — The Minnesota Lynx announced that Napheesa Collier will sign a one-year, $1.4 million supermax contract and is expected to return to on-court basketball activities in early June following offseason ankle surgeries. The team said her rehabilitation is progressing as expected.

Collier had surgery on her right ankle in early January and a second procedure on her left ankle on March 24, the team said. She was ruled out on New Year's Day for four to six months.

Collier injured her left ankle in Game 3 of the WNBA semifinals, ending her season after she tore three ligaments. The Lynx lost the semifinal series against the Phoenix Mercury in five games. Earlier in the year, she missed seven games in August and a total of three weeks of the regular season because of a right ankle injury.

"Right now, I'm just working as fast as I can with my doctors and my [physical therapy] staff, just trying to get back on the court. But everything is going well, so you'll see me soon," Collier said.

Speaking about her focus heading into the season, Collier said, "I'm so focused on, right now, with my injury and this year and winning a championship. That is what I'm doing, so getting back with our amazing staff, playing with our amazing players and just focused on this year and winning."

The six-foot-one forward and five-time All-Star finished second in MVP voting last season, averaging 22.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.5 blocks. She shot 53.1% from the field, 40.3% from three-point range and 90.6% from the free throw line while averaging over 20 points, recording the league's second 50-40-90 shooting campaign.

Collier is the third player in the WNBA to sign a supermax deal, following A'ja Wilson, who signed a three-year supermax contract with the Las Vegas Aces, and Kelsey Mitchell, who signed a one-year supermax contract with the Indiana Fever. Collier will be an unrestricted free agent in 2027 and, under the new collective bargaining agreement, unable to be cored. A core qualifying offer is akin to the NFL's franchise tag.
