Leicester City were relegated from the Championship to League One after a 2-2 draw with Hull City. The result confirmed a second successive relegation for the club and dropped them into the third tier of English football for the first time since 2009.

Liam Millar opened the scoring before quickfire goals from Jordan James and Luke Thomas put Leicester ahead. Oli McBurnie equalized for Hull midway through the second half. The draw left Leicester seven points from safety with two games remaining.

Supporters chanted for the club's board to be sacked and directed abuse at chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha during the match. Midfielder Harry Winks was booed by supporters when he was substituted on.

"The bigger picture is you don't get relegated over three or four games, you get relegated over a season. We have to learn. I think the club have to accept this is the horrible part of the journey of a football club," Leicester City manager Gary Rowett said.

The relegation marked a steep decline for a club that won the Premier League under Claudio Ranieri in May 2016, reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League in the 2016-17 season, lifted the FA Cup in 2021 and reached the semifinals of the UEFA Conference League in the 2021-22 season. Leicester were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2022-23 season, then won the Championship in 2023-24 to return to the top flight, before being relegated again at the end of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

The club sacked manager Steve Cooper after 12 games of the 2024-25 season, and his replacement Ruud van Nistelrooy did not prevent relegation. Leicester have had seven different managers since Brendan Rodgers left in April 2023. Earlier in the current season, the club were docked six points for breaching spending rules. Leicester have won only one of their last 18 away matches.

"Leicester find themselves in League One with no real leadership, that worries me. When there's no leadership things sink. It's a desperately low time for the football club, probably the worst in its history," radio commentator Matt Piper said.

Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha took over the club after the death of his father, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who bought Leicester for £39 million in 2010 and died in a helicopter crash outside the King Power Stadium.
