LIVERPOOL — Mohamed Salah suffered a hamstring injury during Liverpool's 3-1 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League and will miss the remainder of the club's season. Egyptian football official Ibrahim Hassan confirmed the diagnosis and said the forward would be available for the 2026 World Cup.

"He has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment," Hassan said. He said Salah will be fit for the World Cup, where Egypt face Belgium, New Zealand and Iran in Group G.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot addressed the injury after the match. "We have to wait and see how his injury is and if he is able to return to play," Slot said.

Slot said the forward's professional habits would aid his recovery. "What I do know about Mo is that throughout all of these years, he has taken such good care of his body that he will have the minimum time required to recover from an injury," he said.

Egypt will return to the World Cup in 2026 after missing the 2022 edition. The team's group matches at the 2026 tournament are scheduled against Belgium on June 15, New Zealand on June 21 and Iran on June 26.

Salah has previous experience recovering from a major injury ahead of a World Cup. Before the 2018 World Cup, he injured his shoulder in the Champions League final. He missed Egypt's opening game at the 2018 tournament but recovered to play the remaining two group matches, scoring two goals.
