HAMILTON COUNTY — The Humane Educational Society announced the appointment of Starla Raiborn as its new executive director. Raiborn succeeds Dr. Tai Federico, who volunteered as interim executive director for the past 16 months.

Raiborn has previously served as executive director for two animal shelters and has volunteered at various humane societies throughout her life. She has worked with animals in many different capacities and holds a master's degree in psychology. The Humane Educational Society serves Hamilton County.

"I've spent my career leading and growing mission-driven organizations, including humane societies and community-based programs, and I'm deeply committed to this work. Animals have always been a central part of my life." Raiborn said.

Raiborn outlined her priorities for the organization in a statement about the new role. She pointed to expanding the society's reach, strengthening community partnerships, and elevating care and advocacy for animals in the region as among her goals.

"I'm incredibly honored to join the Humane Educational Society and to be part of an organization with such a strong legacy of compassion and service. What excites me most is the opportunity to build on that foundation — expanding our reach, strengthening community partnerships, and continuing to elevate the level of care and advocacy for animals in our region. I'm especially looking forward to working alongside such a dedicated team to shape the future of HES in a way that's both innovative and deeply rooted in our mission." she said.

Federico, who led the organization on a volunteer basis during the interim period, addressed the transition. "I am so glad that Starla has taken the role. Her experience and skillset make her an ideal choice. Under her leadership, HES will continue to serve the pets and people of Hamilton County, and we will save more pets than ever." he said.
