AMSTERDAM — England and Wales were drawn to play each other in the pool stages of the men’s Hockey World Cup later this year. The two teams will compete in Pool D alongside India and Pakistan.

The men’s and women’s Hockey World Cup tournaments will take place from Aug. 15 to Aug. 30 in the Netherlands and Belgium. Fixture details for the Hockey World Cup will be announced on Wednesday.

Pool D games in the men’s tournament will be played at the Wagener Stadium in Amsterdam. England and Wales both came through the recent World Cup qualifiers.

The rest of the men’s draw placed the Netherlands, Argentina, New Zealand and Japan in Pool A. Pool B will consist of Belgium, Germany, France and Malaysia, while Pool C will consist of Australia, Spain, Ireland and South Africa.

Germany are the defending men’s Hockey World Cup champions and were drawn in Pool B with Belgium, France and Malaysia. In the women’s tournament, the Netherlands are the defending champions and will face Australia, Chile and Japan in Pool A.

The women’s draw put Argentina, Germany, the USA and Scotland in Pool B. Pool C will consist of Belgium, Spain, New Zealand and Ireland, while Pool D will consist of China, England, India and South Africa.

Ireland, the 2018 World Cup silver medallists, were drawn in women’s Pool C alongside Belgium, Spain and New Zealand. Ireland and Scotland will play their Hockey World Cup matches in Wavre, Belgium, and Ireland will be based there during the tournament.

England’s women will be based in Amsterdam for the Hockey World Cup. In recent results, England’s women beat India in the final of the World Cup qualifiers and beat China in the FIH Pro League.
