TARRANT COUNTY, TEXAS — Columbus Aviators coach Ted Ginn Jr. was charged early Saturday in Tarrant County, Texas, with driving while intoxicated. He was released from custody after posting a $1,000 bond.

The league disciplined Ginn following the charge and he missed one game as a result of the weekend arrest, according to the league. Offensive coordinator Todd Haley stepped in to replace Ginn on the sideline for Sunday's game against the Dallas Renegades.

In a statement posted to X after the arrest, Ginn addressed the situation directly. "I made a serious mistake and take full responsibility for my actions. I've always believed in accountability and now it's my turn to live that standard." he wrote.

Ginn will return to coach the Aviators, according to the league. The Columbus Aviators posted a video to X on Tuesday that showed Ginn back with the team and encouraging players as the franchise prepared for its next game. The Aviators are scheduled to host the Renegades on Friday night in a rematch of the game Ginn missed over the weekend.

The Aviators have opened the new season with three consecutive losses. Ginn was named the team's head coach in December as the franchise assembled its coaching staff ahead of the current campaign.

Before entering coaching, Ginn had a lengthy career as a professional football player, spending 14 seasons in the NFL. The Miami Dolphins selected him out of Ohio State University with the ninth overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. Over the course of his playing career, Ginn also played for the San Francisco 49ers, the Carolina Panthers, the New Orleans Saints, the Arizona Cardinals and the Chicago Bears before transitioning to coaching with the Aviators organization.
