AUGUSTA, GEORGIA — Rory McIlroy won the 90th Masters Tournament at Augusta National in April 2026, becoming the fourth player in history to win consecutive Masters titles. The victory was McIlroy's seventh major championship and his second Masters win.

McIlroy's path to a second green jacket required him to hold off a challenge from Justin Rose, who made three consecutive birdies during the final round to take a two-stroke lead at the turn. Rose's charge stalled on the back nine, however, when his chip shot on the par-3 12th hole resulted in a bogey. On the 13th hole, Rose hit an approach shot and then three-putted for par, further eroding his advantage. Rose has now finished as runner-up at the Masters three times, including a loss to McIlroy in a playoff at the 2025 tournament.

Scottie Scheffler mounted a weekend rally of his own, having begun the weekend 12 shots behind the leader. Scheffler finished one stroke behind McIlroy, one shot short of forcing a playoff.

Over the last five years, the Masters has been won by Jon Rahm, Scheffler twice, and McIlroy twice. McIlroy's consecutive victories place him alongside a short list of players who have achieved back-to-back wins at Augusta National.

Among golfers with the most major championship victories, Jack Nicklaus holds the record with 18, followed by Tiger Woods with 15 and Walter Hagen with 11. McIlroy's seven major titles moved him further up that career list.
