LONDON — England beat Spain 1-0 in a FIFA Women's World Cup 2027 qualifying match at Wembley Stadium in London on 15 April 2026. Lauren Hemp scored the only goal, securing England's third successive victory in qualifying group A3.

The goal came in the third minute when Alessia Russo scooped the ball into Hemp's path. Hemp hooked the ball past goalkeeper Cata Coll before Alexia Putellas could clear it off the line.

England continued to threaten after the opener. In the 19th minute, Hemp clipped the post after receiving a backheel pass from Lucy Bronze. Spain also created opportunities in the first half, with Irene Paredes directing a header just over the crossbar.

Just before halftime, goalkeeper Hannah Hampton saved a near-post shot from Patricia Guijarro to keep England's lead intact. Spain maintained pressure after the interval, as Olga Carmona's shot deflected and struck the crossbar early in the second half. Salma Paralluelo then forced another save from Hampton as Spain searched for an equalizer.

In the final minutes, Hampton preserved the clean sheet by saving a header from Edna Imade.

The result moved England to the top of group A3 above Spain. Only the winners of the League A groups will qualify directly for the Women's World Cup 2027 in Brazil.

The match was the first meeting between the two teams since England's penalty shootout win in last year's European Championship final. Keira Walsh captained England in place of Leah Williamson and earned her 100th cap for England. Mary Earps, the Euro 2022-winning goalkeeper, was honoured in an international retirement ceremony before the match.
