Baltimore Orioles manager Craig Albernaz was struck in the left cheek by a line drive during a home game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The ball was hit by Orioles second baseman Jeremiah Jackson, and Albernaz was immediately taken into the tunnel behind the dugout, where the team's medical staff treated him.

Albernaz, who is in his first season as Baltimore's manager, returned after receiving treatment and embraced Jackson. Bench coach Donnie Ecker handled postgame duties for Albernaz at the news conference.

"He's doing good. Just as a precaution, he's going to get it scanned," Ecker said of Albernaz's condition.

Jackson described the moment the line drive struck his manager. "I hit, and then I kind of saw Alby holding his face. My heart kind of dropped," he said.

"You never want to hurt anybody, and Alby's awesome. It sucked. But he wore it well and he's in good spirits, so it made me feel better," Jackson said. "I was able to see him afterward and see he was doing OK. Knowing he was OK helped. It made me feel a little bit better. I'm just happy he's doing OK and in good spirits."

On the field, the Orioles erased a six-run deficit to win 9-7. Jackson hit a grand slam in the sixth inning that cut Baltimore's deficit from 7-2 to a one-run game.
